Abstract

Techniques developed in Belgium to obtain a high and lasting skid resistance, both for cement concrete pavements, which are very common in Belgium, and for bituminous pavements: and criteria for the use of safety barriers, which led to the generalization of concrete barriers of the New Jersey type, in particular in the median area of motorways and roads with separate pavements, are discussed.
