Abstract

In order to determine relative weight of respective factors (such as traveling speed, traveling conditions, composition of vehicle types and loading conditions) in producing traffic noise, a survey was conducted along selected trunk roads in Tokyo, Japan in December 1997 along with the traveling experiments on the test course and computer simulations. A series of these studies have determined that excessive traveling speeds and percentage of large sized trucks have a close relationship with traffic noises generated. A "Traffic Pollution Alleviation System" was introduced in May 1999 in order to reduce traffic noise by controlling vehicle speeds. (A*)
