The Newton- Kantorovich method for solving the gravity model in traffic planning.

Abstract

The commonly used gravity model with exponential distance function can be derived in several ways. In this paper the author follows his earlier model which minimizes total (generalized) travel cost subject to constraints on the entropy. This usage of the notion of entropy and its relation to the idea of accessibility is discussed. The mentioned iterative procedure is a version of the Newton- Kantarovich method, as is shown.
