Abstract

The innovative night lighting system described uses light houses instead of lamp posts; saving in number of lamps is 50%; the system makes no contribution to global temperature rise; it provides uniform lighting; it casts no direct light towards drivers; large savings in fuel for cooking; no space needed for lamp posts and cables; 50% saving in cost of lamps, maintenance and wear and tear; saving in vehicle headlights. The light source proposed is such that light in the form of a wide beam made by a concave reflector is angled downwards; the light in the form of a parallel beam is cast on road at 20-30 degrees and causes no direct glare. The heat produced can be used for cooking on the top of the unit.
