Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effect of delineating the median storage area of the intersection of a four-lane highway with a two-lane highway on the operational safety of that intersection. Colored pavement was used to provide a color contrast between the median storage area and through lanes of travel, thus delineating the median storage area for a motorist on the side road. A secondary objective was to develop a method of providing a nighttime visibility to the colour in the pavement. The results are given.
