Abstract

This paper reviews present New Zealand open road night time delineation, with particular reference to overseas practice and research. This paper shows that in most respects current New Zealand delineation standards are inferior to those employed in other developed countries. It is concluded that such an upgrading of the delineation on New Zealand roads would significantly reduce accidents, with a correspondingly high benefit /cost ratio.
