Abstract

Retroflective markings on lorries and trailers are studied. A collision with such a formidable obstacle is not only possible if we do not see it at all, but also if the obstacle is incorrectly recognized. In daytime, many of those vehicles are recognizable by their particular visual layout. Many of the designs are of commercial origin and are meant as advertising. If not applied well, they can be dangerous at night.
