Abstract

The Nordic Council of Ministers has initiated a feasibility study on developing a Nordic environmental focused multimodal travel planning system for transport of persons. By such a system is meant a system that ensures a more effective utilization of the transport system as a whole focusing on the environment. It will also be a system that includes all transport modes (road-, sea-, air- and railway transport). The system makes it possible for the user to assess the real costs of the different travel alternatives, i.e.: price, time-and energy consumption as well as environmental impacts. Such a travel planner will on a long term be an environmental correct and sustainable alternative compared to the existing travel planners on the market today. It will additionally indirectly support the political objectives of promoting public transport.
