This chapter provides an overview of the transport situation in Norway. Transport determinants are examined including a) geography, b) population, c) employment, d) education, e) the economy and f) temporal patterns. The transportation system is described including a) the structure of the public transport system, b) car ownership and use, c) urban and regional transport, d) interurban transport and e) rural transport. Travel patterns are considered with statistics provided for trip frequency and modal share in and between cities. Norway's transport policy making structure is described, key concerns identified and policies outlined.
