A note on a mathematical model of traffic flow on a divided highway.

Abstract

Recently Renyi has considered a model of traffic flow on a divided highway and has proved some interesting asymptotic results. In this note a new proof of Renyi's result is given. Similar results are also proved for finite time t. The probability density function of the velocity distribution of a vehicle given that it is in the segment (a.b) of the highway at time is computed. An extension of this model when there are several entrances and exits is also considered.
