Abstract

A vital aspect of research into road traffic noise is the measuring technique and the development of physical units in order to specify the noise which correlates with noise nuisance Although, traffic noise is complex and the possibilities of unintentional variations in technique between the research workers are great, several common procedures are becoming adopted by several different research groups. This article is an attempt to summarise the aspects of noise measuring methods which are generally becoming adopted, and a bibliography of publications on traffic noise is added as an appendix.
