Abstract

The research program discussed here has critically reviewed recent previous research in highway delineation requirements, conducted controlled field experiments to understand better the relationship between delineation quantity, roadway geometry, and background visual clutter, produced analytical studies to investigate the effects of glare from oncoming vehicles, and utilised the federal highway administrations's highway simulator to select the most effective delineation treatments for further field testing.
