Abstract

Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) will increase their complexity in a short medium term, which will consequently involve changes in the design methodology. The aim of this paper is to present a novel approach when designing ADAS. The case study analyzed will show how preliminary design deficiencies, related with acceptability and usability, are early detected.Furthermore, this paper also describes how ADAS can be initially designedwithin a virtual environment where driver-in-the-loop is possible, havingpositive impact on the final system driving safety requirements. The benefits of this study are shown on a simplified example based on forward collision warning system designed ad-hoc.
