Abstract

TRW is developing an innovative, low cost, high performance passive millimeter wave traffic sensor (PMMWTS - patent pending) based on changes in the naturally occurring millimeter wave (mmW) radiation detected as vehicles pass through its field of view. This sensor works day or night, in fog, dust, and rainy conditions. The PMMWTS can detect/compute vehicle presence, count, speed, length, and categorize vehicles. Millimeter wave Mono-lithic Integrated Circuit (MMIC) receivers permit low cost, low power operation with batteries/solar cells. The latest performance results will be presented. (A)
