This booklet aims to provide a summary of some of the main findings from the extensive research which has been carried out in recent years on driver training and testing and driver behaviour more generally. It also provides references to research reports. The topics for discussion in this booklet include: novice driver accidents; pre-driver education; driver training and testing; and driver abilities, attitudes and behaviour. Some of the research reported focuses specifically on learner and novice drivers, but other research is included in this booklet to provide a context and where the messages also have relevance for learner and novice drivers. This booklet has been prepared to accompany the DETR Novice Driver Conference held on June 2000, in Bristol. (A)
