Abstract

The NSW Government is committed to improving road safety. The NSW Motorcycle Safety Strategy 2012-2021 (Strategy) will contribute to road safety by addressing the motorcycle road toll through targeted motorcycle safety initiatives and actions. Road safety is a Government priority of NSW 2021: A Plan to Make NSW Number One. The Strategy will contribute to the goal to make NSW roads the safest in the country. Motorcycle safety actions are already underway to reduce motorcycle crashes. Such actions include our current programs and the implementation of early initiatives throughout 2011 and 2012. New initiatives and actions are developed, such as: *Developing targeted communication campaigns to address motorcycle crash risks; * Furthering the research and understanding of motorcycle crash risks; * Improving road environment safety features for motorcyclists; * Investigating safety equipment and gear. The Strategy was developed in consultation with key stakeholders, including the rider community. (Author/publisher)
