Abstract

This paper documents the usefulness of open- loop test procedures in the measurement of vehicle directional response characteristics. The development of directional response test procedures in the United States is discussed. An overview of some of the objective test procedures used by General Motors for the assessment of vehicle directional response characteristics is provided, together with a discussion of the key performance metrics obtained from these tests.
