Abstract

A before and after comparison of data collected by driving on a fixed circuit in Detroit showed a 6% decrease in fuel consumption and a 12% decrease in travel time after the introduction of the generally permissive right-turn-on-red policy. Savings of both fuel and time were greater in off-peak than in afternoon rush hour.
