Abstract
A method has been developed for collecting and analysing on a large scale data relating to the behaviour of children in road crossing situations. The results obtained from four sites show differences between the behaviour of children and adults which indicate the employment of different crossing strategies. Social factors often had a marked effect on children's road crossing behaviour, but sex differences were less common. The implications of these results are discussed, and a note on the methodological issues associated with observation studies is appended.
