Abstract

A summary of the results of the inspections carried out over the period 1970-77 is given, which indicates that the number of defects found at inspections is unlikely to be reduced. There has been a steady decline in the percentage of goods vehicles prohibited from use, which indicates that there has been a consistent improvement in the condition of goods vehicles in use on the road. About 30% of vehicles fall their test and most common defects are in braking and steering .systems. This paper was presented at the SAE meeting, February 27 - March 3, 1978.
