Abstract

In the USA older people are the fastest growing segment of the population, and, given the opportunity, most of them expect to continue to drive their own cars.By the year 2000, one of the three drivers will be over 55 years of age, compared with one in five today. The most rapid increase will be among those over 75. The skills necessary for safe driving begin to deteriorate at age 55, dramatically so after 75.
