Abstract

A study has been commenced to examine the extent of injury among older road users in this State. The study was primarily aimed at identifying recent accident trends among older drivers and pedestrians, relative costs of older road user treatment, rehabilitation and associated charges, as well as road and environment variables that seemed to be over represented in these crashes. A preliminary analysis was conducted and the findings of relevance to older pedestrians are contained in this paper. The paper focuses mainly on older pedestrians, but for comparison purposes, data are also provided in some instances on older drivers and passengers. (A)
