Abstract

This pamphlet provides information that should be of interest to the older driver. Topics addressed include the following: the risk of overconfidence in past driving experience; the accident experience of older drivers; the demands of driving; how ageing affects driving; the effect of medical conditions (e.g., arthritis, heart disease) on driving; driving situations that trouble older drivers the most; tips for safer driving in bad weather; driving defensively; long-distance driving; avoiding pedestrian accidents; the use of seat belts and air bags; continuing education and driver training; safety factors to consider when buying a new car; buying insurance; when to stop driving; and working for a safe driving environment.
