Abstract

This report describes the starting points, the methodology and the results of a study into the future accessibility of Schiphol Airport by car and public transport. Three alternative configurations of a multi-airport system were considered, where the locations for the second national airport were: the Tweede Maasvlakte ("overflow airport"), a sea location near IJmuiden ("remote terminal") and in the Markerwaard ("tandem airport"). The accessibility of the airport was investigated for the year 2015, and for four trip purposes: air passengers (excluding transfer passengers), air cargo, home to work traffic and supporting freight traffic.
