Abstract

The rate of fatalities in road crashes per 100,000 population in NSW has declined dramatically over the last three decades, from 28.9 in 1970 to 6.5 in 2009. The most recent figures represent the lowest rates since the early years of last century, despite a considerable increase in the number of motor vehicles on the roads compared to that time.
