Abstract

The Consumer Safety Institute has performed an analysis of the data on bicycle accidents in its Home and Leisure Accidents Surveillance System. The analysis adds information to the data of the Road Accidents Registration. In 1984, 4532 private accidents involving bicycles were registered in the Home and Leisure Accidents Surveillance System. Based on this, the total number of accidents of this kind in the Netherlands may be estimated at 43.000. Of these accidents, about 90% percent took place on public roads.
