Abstract

As stated in part I of this article (see IRRD abstract no 244564) the influence of rain on traffic safety can be measured from the number of injured or killed road users. Statistical analyses of data on accidents on wet roads and factors influencing these are presented. Parameters such as driver, vehicle, road contact and brakes are taken into account. A set of recommendations for the short, middle and long term were given. In this article the specific measures in the field of road design and construction are dealt with. The characteristics of different road textures are discussed. Regular inspection of road surface and road markings is essential. Investigation is necessary of the ways in which road-tyre contact can be improved.
