Ontarion forbids use of studded tires on grounds of danger, pavement damage.

Abstract

After April 1971, Ontario Province in Canada will ban studded tyres. A survey showed that 60% of vehicles would be using studded tires by the winter of 1971-72 at a cost of $ 127.000.000 in highway and street damage over the next 10 years in Southern Ontario alone. Anticipated damage can be a safety hazard through grinding of ruts in pavement and obliteration of lane markings, a serious hazard winter darkness.
