Abstract

In recent plans of the NS and of the Dutch government, it is assumed that a strong increase of train traffic will take place. Besides, it is the intention to intensify the land use near railway stations. As a result of this, the noise pollution caused by the train traffic will increase. This will have consequences for the implementation of the "Decree Noise Pollution Traffic-on-rails Noises" (BGS). To get an insight into possible future bottlenecks in this area, the NS needs a policy information system in the short term, with which possible effects of noises of interventions on or near the railway can be explored for local situations in a quick way. In this preliminary study, a proposal for such a "local policy information system traffic-on-rails noises" (LOKBIS) has been worked out.
