Abstract

For future scenario studies developments in the transportation system must be described. Through looking in the future is never an easy task, some rough developments can be sketched. For transport by land developments in the field of motor technology (traditional internal combustion engine as well as battery-electric and even fuel-cell-electric engines), infrastructure (underground infrastructure, MagLev, combined rail-road infrastructure) and services can be described. For waterborne shipping the role in short-distance passenger transport can become more important. For national air transport a rather gloomy future can be foreseen as the tafffic problems in the air will be probably even more severe and harder to control than on the roads. New transportation systems ask for (new) interchange points and a multimodal approach of transportation issues. In this paper several types of interchange points are defined and different types of storeage are described. (A)
