Abstract

Luminous intensity measurements were carried out, in the laboratory, on 100 used and 10 new car headlamps. The purpose was to trace the causes of the high glare intensities and low illumination intensities found in earlier measurements on the road. It is concluded that visibility calculations of objects in traffic, which are often based on ideal light distributions of car headlamps, should be reconsidered.
