Abstract

Local differences in the use of bikes cannot adequately be attributed to analyses on an aggregated level. This research was focussed on direct approach of cyclists and non-cyclists in two Dutch cities: a typical "car-city" (Breda) and a typical "bike-city" (Zwolle). The results show that habit and social safety are prime reasons for car- usage on local, short-distance travel- patterns.
