Abstract

The Dutch policy goals with respect to traffic and transport cannot be reached using policy tools which have been applied in past years. Technological innovations may help to limit the negative impacts of traffic and transport. In the INIT (INnovations Inland Transport) project a technology survey has been executed. Innovations have been identified which can be realised in the next 20 years, and which have a positive impact on the policy goals. Innovation concepts have been classified by three themes: tele-activities, integrated goods transport chains, and integrated passenger transport chains. For each innovation concept INIT has drawn up a strategy. INIT has formulated a vision how innovations in traffic and transport can have a place in policymaking and implementation.
