Abstract

This paper presents some of the main outcomes of an explanatory study on the impacts of urbanisation patterns on travel demand and infrastructure use. The study is a part of the RANDSTAD-VISION project. The main objective of the study was to develop urbanisation concepts who can contribute to the main transport goals in the Netherlands. One conclusion of the study is that the common mono-centric approach, based on the principle of proximity, does not necessarily produce the most mobility friendly urbanisation patterns.
