Abstract

This article has two parts. The first part consists of a survey of determinants (price, quality, income, car availability) of public transport ridership, followed by a breakdown of public transport trips by car availability and social group. The second part consists whether the distribution of ridership over income groups could be meaningfully compared with a normative distribution, and, if so, whether the latter distribution could be calculated.
