There is not really a public participation for the prevention of car use in residential areas by parking provisions at the border of that residential areas. But it is not necessary that the car should be parked at the front door or in the garage of the residence. The new residential areas can be designed in such a way, that only public transport can drive into the area and the cars only in a limited way. The aim of this study is to design new residential areas for larger cities in the province of Gelderland in which the public transport and cycling traffic are favoured. The locations for such areas are studied and specifications for the realization of such areas are presented.
