Abstract

In considering the reasons why public lighting should be installed, the author deals with aspects of traffic safety, comfort and social amenity. Criteria are given for making a decision on whether to install a lighting system or not. Several ways of saving on costs of lighting are indicated and discussed. The author pleads in favour of setting up a working group of specialists on road construction, public lighting and financing, an economist being chairman.
