Abstract

Data concerning operating costs of bus and rail system collected from operating agencies and the American Transit Association are presented. Operating cost models were prepared for individual rapid transit system and bus systems. The use of these models in economic comparisons of highway and other transit alternatives is discussed and illustrated. Data deficiencies are discussed, and recommendations concerning accounting formats are made.
