Abstract

An analysis is made of the accidents which occurred on U. S. 101 in San Francisco Bay area during Operation 500, in which an additional 500 traffic police were deployed on selected roads for the primary purpose of accident reduction. Accident statistics include: comparison of accidents with average daily traffic, characteristics of victims, types of accidents, environmental factors, locations, characteristics of drivers at fault; and characteristics of vehicles involved.
