Abstract

A research project was conducted to define an operational model for railway incident management. This will act as a guide for further development of incident management whilst the railway sector is faced with major changes. These include an increase in the number of railway companies and maintenance providers for the railway network and its equipment. The operational model for railway incident management describes the tasks of authorities, railway companies, network constructors and other parties in different incident management situations. The model includes joint planning of incident management, incident management of situations that are known in advance, real time incident management and analysis and post incident reporting. An independent Traffic Management Centre was required to carry out incident management tasks.
