Abstract

This paper describes findings of Humanist EU-project task B, which aims at evaluating potential benefits of ITS concentrating especially expert opinions of the opportunities and threats of various ITS. Expert opinions were collected in two consecutive phases, first by SWOT analysis and later by Delphi-study. The general conclusion of the analysis that took place using both methodologies indicated that for most of the examined systems there is significant potential for positive impact on road safety. For instance Intelligent Speed Management systems, both intervening and warning variants are predicted to enhance compliance with speed limits and to have therefore great opportunity to reduce speed related accidents and conflicts with vulnerable road users. However, several concerns were raised on the importance of their proper development, application and use of the studied IT systems. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
