Abstract

The problem of controlling cascaded vehicles in a high speed transportation system using an on-line digital computer is considered. At regular intervals of time, T, vehicle spacings and velocities are monitored and transmitted to the digital computer. With this information, using a knowledge of the vehicle dynamics, the computer calculates the inertial force be exerted on each vehicle in the cascade. By this means vehicle spacings and speeds are optimally regulated.
