Abstract

Recent literature on the optimal low beam of car headlamps was surveyed. In particular, three recent studies were evaluated that provided founded arguments for a distribution of the luminous intensity of the low beam. In this report it is recommended to increase the maximum intensities above the cut- off line to 1000 cd (500 cd for B50L) and to add a minimum intensity in the central area above the cut- off and in the direction at 7 degrees above the horizon of respectively 400 and 40 cd.
