Abstract

In this paper some problems concerning network optimization procedures are discussed. Optimization is defined as selecting link capacities in such a way that the total societal costs are minimized, given a fixed trip matrix. An approximation method for the optimization of the network is outlined. This method is of a heuristic kind and incorporates techniques for equilibrium assignment.
