Abstract
One of the main tasks of traffic planning engineers is the design of traffic networks according to traffic requirements and under the aspect of economy. The planning method usually applied is known as "alternative planning". In contrast, the present work proposes a reduction procedure in which, on the basis of a "maximum network", an optimum traffic network is calculated with the aid of an optimization model.
