Abstract

A broad outline of the German view regarding traffic signal coordination in the road network and the traffic responsive effect on the signal programme is given. Reference is made to the optimisation procedure SIGMA, currently being developed. With regard to driver information, the elaboration of the dynamic variable message sign system on the Berlin urban motorway is discussed and the results of studies on the "Wolfsburg Wave" information system, which provides drivers with on- board recommended speeds, are reviewed.
