Abstract

This report describes a method for easily determining speeds and position of vehicles on streets with parking on one or both sides, criteria for determining effective street width are given. Comparative data for free-moving, meeting and other vehicles are tabulated. A width of 29 ft was found to be adequate for all observed drivers to accept a meeting manoevre opposite a parked car, and for drivers holding the same lateral position, regardless of whether free-moving or meeting, a width of 31 ft was necessary.
