Abstract

The high number of alcohol-related accidents is due notonly to problem-drinker, repeatedly convicted for drunkendriving, but also to what we may call the 'ordinary' or'normal' driver. Therefore the Federal Highway ResearchInstitue of Germany (BASt) has developed a research pro-gram, focusing on the behaviour of this 'ordinary' driver. These drinking-driving situations are described by charac-teristical variables, including decision processes and, probleet-solving. In this way critical situations, leading tosuch a conflict, ocUd be identified.
