Abstract

The basic principle of assistance in accidents in a major city is to transport the patients after having rendered first aid as quickly and expertly as possible to a hospital that is situated nearest to the place of the accident. A description of this organisation in Rotterdam is given. Statistical data are given of the annual number of accidents reports and ambulance runs, accidents spread over the year, the hours of the day, and the days of the week. Advantages and disadvantages of the combination of transportation of traffic victims and sick people are discussed.
