Abstract

A public transport authority for integrated and cooperating public transport systems for the entire area of the states of Berlin and Brandenburg, VBB for short, was established on 30th of December 1996 under public law, supported by a privately organised managing agency. The area served by the organisation includes the two states as well as all cities and counties within the state of Brandenburg. The VBB provides an "organisational umbrella" under which rail and road urban and regional public transport services in the states of Berlin and Brandenburg can be integrated, improved and further expanded and can be offered as a complete and uniform product to the public. Its primary objectives are uniform transport tariffs, uniform standards of quality, integrated networks and schedules, and a uniform image as the framework for marketing and information activities.
